CorelDRAW 9 is very slow

By jlandberg ·
Installed CorelDRAW 9 on a machine with 256MB
of RAM and it runs extremely slow. Even when
just resizing an image it takes a really long
time to redraw the image. Doing the same
exact thing within 8 takes atleast half the
time. Is there anything that can be done
about this, or is it just that the program is
extremely Bloated?

J,
Would need some more info about your system to fully answer your question. What's your processor speed? More importantly, what kind of graphics card do you have, and how much memory does it have? This is probably your most important factor--all images have to go through the graphics card first. If you have a card with a small amount of RAM, such as 4 or 8 Megabytes, I would seriously suggest upgrading your card to something with AT THE VERY LEAST 16 MB of RAM. Matrox makes excellent graphic cards--try checking out their Millenium series.
If you can give some more info here, I may be able to help more. Your RAM on your motherboard, while important, doesn't affect your graphics capabilities as much as your graphics card RAM. Also, 256 is nice, but not really necessary, as most operating systems won't really use more than 128 MB. Win98 won't really recognize more than 128. So, got any more info?
Hope this helps,
Leesa

are there any other programs that run particularly slow on your machine? Like AutoCAD or anything else Graphic intensive?
are you running a lot of programs in the background? ie.virus software, personal firewalls.. etc.
