Corrupt Control Panel?

By nescobar ·
Whenever I login with a particular ID (with local Administrator rights)and try to run a Control Panel applet, I get this error,
"Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied", but running the actual *.cpl file from explorer works. Is something screwed up here bad?

Thanks for your help.

Corrupt Control Panel?

Hi,

It could be that this is dissallowed by a group policy that has been set?

Is the ID a domain username or a local one?

Cheers,
Tim.

This Microsoft article:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/2274.asp

says the following:

"Ask the network administrator to set the permissions on this device or file, or on the directories in the path tothe device or file, to allow you access."

(REMOVE SPACES from the pasted URL.)

Good luck,

Hi,

I see you took the time to reject my answer, but didn't take the time to answer my simple question - I think it could be very relevent in your problem. I'll ask it again...

Is the account you're logging into a local account or a domain account?

I reckon its got to do with a security problem rather than the following - which is possible but seems unlikely in your case...
