What are the correct steps to repair files? I.E. Hit run, typed in misconfig and recieved error message; file not found or corrupted.
Thanks Harry

If you typed in misconfig at the RUN command line, in order to get a configuration screen up, then you are going to get an error message because as far as I am aware, this file does not exist. What I think you want to type is MSCONFIG. This will bring up a configuration screen, showing among other things, a tab screen which shows all the programs that launch on Boot up.

If you do indeed have corrupt files, my advice is to run SCANDISK, and check to make sure you don't have a stuffed disk, and then reinstall the application that is not working, or get a good copy of the file that is supposed to be corrupt and copy it across to the faulty file.

Best of luck, hope this helps.

Could be two things (other than a typo ):
a: Win95 doesn't have msconfig, only Win98
or b: it really is missing or corrupt. If it is, and you're on Win98, there's a system tool to find & fix files. Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Information. Go to Tools on the menu, choose System File Checker. You can use this utility to check for altered (corrupted) files, or to replace a missing or corrupt file from cab or disk. You will need to know the exact name of the file, and where it's located. The utility will extract it from the cab for you. If you need more help, there is a help file available for File Checker.
