corrupt files after changing permissions

I have had many discussions about whether administering a NT 4 network from a win2k pro machine will cause problems. I can’t remember the exact issues but one current one is Files become corrupt after changing permissions on a nt 4 server from a win2k pro laptop. Can anyone confirm or put to rest this quandry. Oh yes please give me references (i.e. Q articles, tech papers, etc.) I believe the story has changed and possibly become an urban legend. Thank you in advance for the help.
