Corrupt/Missing Files in Windows XP Pro

By computer_excel ·
I am not able to load Windows XP Professional due to missing or corrupt file on c:\windows\system32\system. I tried to let Win XP to repair it, but it did not fix it. Is there anyway to reload Windows XP Pro without losing any of programs or data?

System32 files are usually virtual device drivers.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

If so, that confirms that it is a device driver issue.

See if you can determine which device has a corrupt driver file. The specifics of the error message should provide a clue.

Then, from safe mode, use device manager to remove the suspect device. With any luck, when windows re-installes the device, the error will be corrected.

I would also check your memory. Another common source of system32 errors is memory problems. Make sure that all modules are seated. If you added new mwmory just before the problem started, the new ram may not be compatible with the old ram.
Or, one of your memory modules is going bad.
