I had a issue the other day. I had a win98 box that was stuck in a "DOS loop".
I try renaming the autoexec.bat file and found that the win.com was corupt.
Is ther any way to repair this besides formating the HD And rebuilding the o/s?

Copy the win.com file from another computer to that computer, then reboot. This should do the trick.
Hope this works, Maozy.

Do not rename the autoexec.bat file . Start the PC with the startup disk and reinstall windows .When it tells you to restart ,remove the floppy from the drive , hold down the F8 key before windows boots to enter the startup menu . select Safe mode and boot . After the PC boots goto accessories / system tools / system information then on the tools menu select system configuration utility . Open the autoexec tab and uncheck everything in it. OK/APPLY and restart the computer .
Congratulations you've done it .....

Good luck !
