Are there any remedies for infected browsers, Internet Explorer 5 for mac? Upon opening IE5 causes my iMac G3, MacOs8.6 to crash. I’ve tried reloading browser, same thing. Help!

First, I’d make sure you have a lot of RAM allocated to the application. Assuming you don’t know how to check this, find the application file for internet explorer, and hit the APPLE key + I (letter i). Click on the General pull down option, and select Memory. I’d give it at least 32000 minimum, and upto 64000 if you can spare it for the maximum. If that doesn’t work, rebuild the desktop, and do the following.

You have to dump every single piece of Internet Explorer to totally remove it. That means preferences and the entire application folder. If I remember correctly, there is an uninstaller for IE 5. Run that first, and then start removing everything associated with IE 5. There shouldn’t be any extensions causing problems, unless you have some strange scenario where there is an extension conflict.

Once you are sure all of it is gone, rebuild the desktop after you restart, and run the installer again to get a clean install. Again, make sure you give the application plenty of RAM….at least 32000 minimum, and upto 64000 if you can spare it.

      Hope this helps.
