I am running W2K Pro. For no apparent reason, my CD-ROM and CD-RW are no longer available in Windows.
They are recognized by the BIOS and are available if I boot with a floppy and CD-ROM support.
I checked Device Manager, which showed an error on both devices stating
?Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)?
I checked Microsoft?s website. Their remedy for this problem is to restore the registry from backup. As my luck would have it, when I tried this, my backup would not work due to a problem with the file itself.
I tried deleting and reinstalling the devices as well as updating the drivers no luck.
I disconnected the CD-ROMs and rebooted, ran Regclean, reinstalled the CD-ROMs. They still give the same error.
I have also tried using Last known good configuration and well as running the W2K repair procedures. Neither option worked.
Does anyone have an ideas I can try to fix this problem? I am not looking forward to reinstalling the OS?
