Could someone enlighten me on why....

TechRepublic is not accepting HTML links?
It seems a bit pointless if we can not give any further information on here to other people in need of help or understanding of their issues.

It's to do with the Spammers

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Could someone enlighten m ...

They have been hitting the site quite hard lately according to the TR Weekly Stats as there is no one getting listed and even the Top 100 is full of Spam Generators and very few TR Posters.

But on the Up Side Site Traffic is up drastically so it's not all bad but the spam gets removed or Nuked before it hits the site so we see less Site Traffic.

As to posting URL's I insert a Space between the Domain Name and the .com part of the address and they post. I just tell the people to remember to remove the space. like this here

http://www.techrepublic .com/blog/tr-out-loud/express-yourself-with-new-emoticons-in-the-community-forums/302

Works every time for me now.

OH and as this is a Question it should have been posted in the Q&A Forums not the Discussions . :^0

Not all links

by CharlieSpencer In reply to Could someone enlighten m ...

I don't know why, but I don't see the same problems you and Col describe. I suspect it's the sites we're trying to link to.

And the funny thing is

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Not all links

When I post the Questions of the Week I don't have a issue at all.

I gave up trying to understand a while ago though and just accept it the way that it is for me.

Most of the problems I've had with posted links disappearing on TR are with links back to TR...

Of course...

they've set up the back-end to filter out sites which are Predominantly used for propagating Spam...

Maybe the Questions of the Week

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to Interesting

Is a Special Case and has been exempt from Normal Site Rules.

And to get this here I just had to click on Reply 15 times. Now I wonder if I just click and not wait will it have the same effect. :^0

And then somehow the User Account changes as I was logged in with the Hal Account. I give up attempting to understand.

Thank you both for your input....

Why oh why do they change things. :)
It was all working fine until they started fiddling with the pits (bits) on this site.

Well it's quite simple really

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Could someone enlighten m ...

Why oh why do they change things

They wanted to improve the amount of Site Traffic.

Now that they have attracted the Spammers they have got their wish in Spades and we are unable to use the site like we used to. :0

OH and I can't reply to any posts at the moment either must be a new "Feature" of TR. :^0

TechRepublic might have improved their site traffic...

But it is stopping the most important stuff such as correspondence.
In a nut shell, people are just passing by but not stopping to answer or looking for advice because of the state this site is in.
If any personnel are listening (looking, taken note etc) please fix soon, if at all. :)
Thanks in advance.

I don't know really

I've just spent the last hour or so deleting Spam.

It's really quite a frustration reliever.
