CPU error

By adent888 ·
I have a 2k server with 2 PIII 933Mhz cpus and an Intel STL2 server board. I have received the following error on boot.
0B51 CPU#2 with error taken offline
I can bypass this error and proceed to boot from 1 cpu.
Any information or advise would be appreciated.

You have a "hardware" error on your CPU number 2.

ie Processor number 2 has failed.

Contact your Hardware Support Agent.

As Black Panther said CPU 2 is no longer working it's time to contact your hardware supplier to get a RMA to repair the unit.Or at the very least another CPU to fit in replacement of the dead one.

What you'll have to very carefully have to look at is why the CPU failed and most likely unless the heat sink has fallen off or if it is an active Heat sink/Fan combination the fan could have failed and taken out the CPU but if the heat sink is still attached and the fan if there is one fitted is still running something has gone wrong on the M'Board.

Being a 933 P3 you may be looking at a replacement system as unless the Powers that Be opted for an Extended Warranty it will prove very hard to replace the damaged parts. While it should be easy to pickup a CPU/Heat sink and or fan if that is still attached and the fan running you will most likely only destroy another CPU in very short order if you replace it.

If you are hardware capable, shut down the unit.

Open it up and reseat the cpu and the Vmodule if the mb has one.

Reboot and see if the problem persists.

If it is still there you can swap the cpu's and see if the error changes to #1.

If the error stays with the #2 then you likely have a MB issue.

Good Luck
