CPU Fan keeps running during Standby

by wjbatesusaf . Updated 16 years, 3 months ago

I am able to put my vpr Matrix 226R Windows XP desktop into standby mode and wake it up with no problems. Oddly, for whatever reason, the CPU fan doesn’t power down, but continues to run continuously during standby. Even more puzzling is that this wasn’t always the case. When the system was new, this never happened. It seems to have started after I installed XP SP1 (now have SP2). That could just be a coincidence though. I don’t know if something like this could be caused by a system/peripheral driver (I get no errors when I look at Hardware/Device Manager under System). Perhaps a chip on the motherboard failed, but my system is very stable otherwise. I continued to have the problem even after I installed a new power supply (replaced wimpy 300W supply) Not an earth-shattering problem, as my system runs fine. Certainly one that continues to perplex me though. Help and suggestions are appreciated!!
