Dual processor systems work best when the processors are of the same step and from the same production lot. How can I determine the lot number of a processor that is in use? Is thee a utility available, or some procedure?

Intel has a utility that can give you a bunch of info about your processor. Check it out at:
      http://developer.intel.com/support/processors/tools/frequencyid/
see if that can help you out.

Thanks for the info, but those tools only ID the processor by speed, manufacturer and such. I am looking specifically for a way to determine the exact lot number of a processor. Dual systems need cpu’s from the same lot, preferrably in sequence to operate at the peak. I need to determine in what order I can use several processors we have that we know came from the same lot but don’t know which is which in the lot order.
        Thanks again, David

try checking out this .pdf from intel it tells you all about what the diffrent makings and such that are found on an Intel chip stand for. look for the section under general information / pentium 3 and boxed pentium 3 line markings in this document.

      http://developer.intel.com/design/pentiumiii/specupdt/244453.htm

This link will take youto a page linking to all the technical information anyone would ever want or need to know on the intel cpus

      http://developer.intel.com/design/PentiumIII/prodbref/

you can generally just look at the cpu itself and compare the FPO-Serial# Country markings. you want the numbers next the the country of origins name to be as close as possible that number contains the information such as which lot and what number processor from the lot it was
