    CPU Process Consumption

    Locked

    by k3 ·

I am running a Win 2000 Advanced server.
There is an application known as stisvc.exe which seem to consume a lot of CPU processing power (around 96%). This application whowever is for monitoring still image devices. I have a scanner and a webcam connected but which are not activated nor in use.

Why is the application still consuming so much CPU processing power while the devices are not activated?

Unsure as to why that would be such a high consumption of the processor… have you tried going into the services, right clicking on it and setting it to run at a slower speed?

I’ve researched your problem with that service… Everyone posts that for over a year, there has been no resolution other than when not using the scanner, from a cmd prompt, type:

        net stop stisvc

Or goto the services, set it up from automatic startup to manual…

        and use the:

        net start stisvc

Sorry I couldn’t have been more help, but from various discussion threads, it has been a problem with both microsoft and hp and nobody has a specific fix over a years time.

I hope this helps a little.

        Good luck.

I tried to change the CPU priorities of the process but the system returns an error that the change could not be done.
