    CPU Requirements for Windows 2000

Will a Celeron 333Mhz and an AMD K6/2 400Mhz work well with Windows 2000 Professional? All of my systems running Win 2000 Pro have at least a PIII 500 Mhz processor. I would like to upgrade about 4 PCs to Win 2000, but they have slower processors and I am not sure how well that would work. Thank You.

Yes, they will work. The minimum requirement for W2k pro is 133 Mhz. Of course, that would make the pc run at a snails pace, but MS says it will work. Your 333 & 400 should work just fine. :o)

I am running a P200 with 96Mb Ram with no difficulties, it’s far more stable than any other windows that I have used.

I loaded Win2k Pro on a Pentium 133Mhz computer about a year and a half ago and it ran faster than it did with Win95. I think it handled its internal cards better and such. I imagine your Celeron and AMD’s will do as well if not better with the new OS.

      The processors will work (slowly).

Make sure you have enough memory on your computers. Although MS says 64 MB, I would strongly recommend 128 MB minimum.

Memory is the critical point, not CPU. Make sure, as the other user said, to have AT LEAST 64MB. I had a Celeron 300 with 128MB that ran faster than my AMD K6-2/350 with 64MB. Both ran Win2K quite well, though, without so much as a system burp from time to time, as 95 is so well known for.
