my home PC Dell 2400 (P4 2.66GHz 512MB) started behaving very slow. Usually my son uses it to download and play games… I noticed the task manager indicating a persistent 100% usage which i attributed to loaded programs in memory. this did not improved when rebooting. since it had been a long time since the last reinstall, i proceeded with a new installation of XP from the Dell recovery disks, which are quite reliable.
to my surprise, after the install the problem persists. since this is already a 4+ year old computer, i am assesing the repair or purchase option. I do not listen to noises from the hard disk that indicate a possible problem, memory shows the full 512. is it possible that some type of trojan be attached in RAM that the reimage did not clear. how can i clean this?
will this slow performace behaviour be attributed to processor failure or something else on the motherboard? I will appreciate any clues and recommendations. thx.
