Crappy Honours or Certification?

By grifter ·
Hi all, I am currently on my way to completing my 3yr Computing degree. Although I have been offered an option to pursue an additional year for an Honors degree, I am at a dilemma as my projected final grades will most likely result in a 2nd Class Lower. Is it advisable to go for Honors? Or should I graduate and use that year to look for a job while taking CCNA/MCSE? If so, which is more advantageous to have for a fresh grad? I intend to get a Masters eventually. Please advice.

Thanks

Crappy Honors????

Why would anyone refer to an honors degree as crappy? To the right employer (the one you would wnat to work for), it not only tells the employer that you can stick to a four-year program (and thus work for their company for at least as many years),but it also tells them that you are intellegent -- well above average. Anyone with enough money can get a cheap, unaccredited associates degree from the T.V. ads. Not everyone can graduated a college/university with an upper-level degree, and not all of those graduates are intelligent enough to obtain honors.

Any honors, Magna *** Laude, Dean's List, etc. can be listed on a resume for extra kudos to you. By all means, pursue the certification, but if you have a chance for the honors degree, TAKE IT!

I'm in the same position as you were.
I finished half the fourth year courses before I decided this wasn't going to help me.
I learned some great things, but not the practical things I needed to find a job fast. Sure if I stuck with the honors I may have found a better paying job eventually, but I think those positions are more limited, unless you are near a huge market. I live in a town with 200,000 people and those jobs are few and far between.

I took a year and earned my MCSE and now I have several options and offers.
