crash when network cable in

When rebooting an IBM Netfinity compter running WINXP Pro if the network cable is plugged in it will not reboot. removing the cable allows normal operation

Change the boot order in the BIOS to:

CD
Hard disk
Floppy
Network

try a new cable
try a new nic

Can you clarify how far it does get when booting?

If you want to try to find the problem, search on Google for the "Bootvis" program. It will tell you EVERY SINGLE bit of info during boot. You can find out why it is locking up on you.
Other than that, then I agree with the first 2 answers.
