    Hi,
How do I create a DOS Startup Diskette. I am running Windows XP Professional. I need this diskette to update my BIOS.
    Thanks.

      Hi Edward,

You create a DOS boot disk pretty much the same way as with previous versions of Windows.

Place a blank floppy in your drive.
      Double click on my computer.
Right click on your floppy drive,
      select format,
check the box to create a MS-DOS bootable disk.

Then, follow your motherboard mfgs. recomendations as to what files to add to the floppy.

When you got to boot from the floppy,
      Enter BIOS setup.
Scrole through the screens, and copy down the settings. (Just in-case you need to reset the CMOS memory after flashing the BIOS)
Make sure on the boot settings screen that your floppy drive is set as the first boot device.

      Exit and save settings.
You should then boot from the floppy, and be able to run the BIOS flash program.
Follow all of the motherboard manufactures instructions.

If your motherboard manufacture does not ask you to, I recommend that after you have completed the flash, that you set the jumper to clear the CMOS memory, and go through the procedure to clear the CMOS. That way, you reduce the risk of any problems.

Boot the computer, and enter BIOS setup again.
Go through the screens, and verify that the settings are correct.
      Exit and save the settings.

You should be good to go.
      Chas
