Create Public Folder Only User

By fitgirl ·
Creating a "public folder only" user
-Win2k Native Mode Domain
-Exchange 2000
-Client PCs running Outlook 2000

I would like to setup a generic user account for PT emps, with access to public folders but NOT email.

Tried :

*Adding user to OU without adding email address but was unable to access any user information from Outlook 2000.

*Adding user to OU with email address but then email address was present(duh!) and accessable by PTEs. Not what I want them to have.

Is this an Outlook thing or an Exchange profile issue to deny the user email? And how do I get there?

Thanks boys,

Fitgirl

Create the mailbox for PT emps. Delete the email addresses, and give it a 0k send and receive limit. This allows them to open the message store (user must have access to the private store to view public folders), but provides no email service.

Good Luck,

I wasn't allowed to delete the SMTP address but I just renamed it something very obscure with out the domain extension then did your suggestion and it worked!!

Thanks,
