Create User Audit Report in WIN2k Svr

By kschroeder ·
I'm trying to create a network access audit report in Win2k server, similar to the one you can get from Novell, that will show me all the groups and shares that a user has access to. Due to budget restraints I'm unable to get SMS or any other third party tools at this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have hunted everywhere in Win2k server to no avail.

There are several VB scripts that are available on the net for doing this, but they will not generate an integrated report.

My recommendation would be to inform whomever has handled you this project that this is not a native capability to Microsoft NT, 2000 or 2003 and a budget must be created for the software tools or someone must be hired to perform this extra work.

You might look at th Hyena product which is relatively inexpensive and could produce mosst of the information you are seeking.

The program you sugested is a great tool but I need to be able to print out the user info and what groups they belong to. Hyena only allows me to view that information. I'll keep it in mind for other uses.

If you need to generate reports, then your client needs to purchase auditing software. Unlike Novell, Microsoft doesn't include a tool for generating security reports. There are several products on the market. Look at Whitehat, which offers an evaluation version.
