Creating a COM2 port on my Windows Vista

By emmyboo ·
Hey Everyone,

I am very lost. I need to connect my thermal receipt printer (that has cash drawer attached) to my Windows Vista desktop so that my Retail Manager v11 will speak to it and priont receipts when I do a sale.

So far...i've connected the printer with my computer but MYOB still says that it doesn't have any 'COM PORTS available' in the hardware drop down list. I've tried to connect it through 'cmd' but to no avail! PLEASE help if you have any idea on how to create a stupid COM 2 port...

=(

How did you connect this printer

To the computer. I'm assuming here that there are no actual Physical COM Ports on your M'Board.

Probably the easiest way is to fit a PCI to COM Port Card to your Computer and set the Cash Drawer/Printer through that.

I believe that Jaycar AU has PCI to COM Port Cards that work with Vista. So there shouldn't be any issues using one of these with a 7 Load.
