Creating a dual boot on Vista

By mphmcm ·
I just purchased a new HP laptop and would like to create a dual boot with Vista and XP. What I would like to do is copy or clone the hard drive from my old laptop. Is this possible and is there a proceedure available?

That's two different questions ...

You can partition the hard drive in your new laptop and install Vista in one partition with XP in the other, thereby creating a dual boot. But both systems require to be installed on the hard drive while it is in situ.

As regards cloning, the resultant drive image would NOT work in the new laptop. Each installation of an operating system generates a HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) which is based on the particular harware components within the computer it is being installed on.

This would not work for any other computer.

You can, however, use the Files and Transfer Wizard to copy all your data from one hard drive to another.
