Creating a trust between 2 Win2K Domains

By Jeremy The IT Guy ·
I have built a DC and it's domain is domainsecure. I have resently built another DC for the domain intranet.domain.com. I have tried to establish a trust between the two but can't do it. I have set up DNS on the later described domain and I have used the netdiag tool to test it and it's fine. When I begin to use the DNS Server on the intranet.domain.com domain as the DNS for the domainsecure domain, I have internet access but when I run netdiag, I get that my domain controller records aren't in the DNS database. I can ping either network by NETBIOS name or IP but I just don't know what records to put into the DNS for the two domains to coexist. I need some help as this is the first time I have ever done this. What needs to be done?Any help would be very great. Thanks in advance, Jeremy

Creating a trust between 2 Win2K Domains

Try Technet article Q317590:
http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q317590
There is a lot of info on DNS configuration.

Also try Q214677:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q214677

But probably the best article to start with is "Description of the DNS SRV Resource Record Type (Q232025):
http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q232025

hope this helps

Sorry bud. The problem wasn't fixed by your answer. I found out by trial and error that it was my domain naming that got me into trouble. Thanks for your help. Jeremy

I did not understand what you want to do?
For two domain to coexist you do not need nothing.
Establish the trust trough AD Domains ad Trusts.
If you want to connect to Internet, set one to forward requests to your isp and the other one to forwardrequests to the first one.
Give more details about what you want to do if this did not help.

You do need to do something because I have tried to establish a trust and I keep getting an error that "The RPC Server is Unavailable". I looked it up and it says that the reason that is coming up is because there are records needed on the DNS server, which is also the DC of the domain I want to trust, that aren't there.

When you create your domain run dcpromo.exe from a command prompt. Select the Domain Controller for a new domain radio button. Hit Next. Then select create a new child domain in an existing domain tree, then hit next. Supply your username, password, and domain info. Then list your parent domain(use the full dns name), then type in intranet in the child domain section, hit next. You should be able to do the rest of the wizard alright.

When your child domain is created, a two way transitive trust is automatically created.

I have two existing domains that I need to join, not a new domain controller being installed into a new domain.
