Creating an Outlook Distribution List from an Excel File

By rpost ·
I have a user that swears he has done this but can't remember how. He has a list of email address in an Excel spreadsheet and wants to create a distribution list in Outlook 2007. Is it possible and, if so, how?

Wish I'd have seen that article yesterday. However, it turns out I had a couple of issues. One, the Outlook 2007 import function doesn't recognize Excel 2007 files, only 1997-2003. Didn't occur to me to save it .csv but eventually saved it in the old '03 format. That works, next problem, our system didn't allow 300 names. Not sure what the magic number is but my user broke it down into 50 each.

Create Outlook 2007 Distribution List with a Macro in Excel 2007

by zorrodidit In reply to Creating an Outlook Distr ...

Here's a macro code that works for me in Excel 2007 and Outlook 2007, except it places the email address both under Name and Email in the Distribution List.

I have three columns of data in Excel, i.e. Company, Name, E-mail Address

Public Sub DistributionList()

Dim objOutlook As New Outlook.Application
Dim objNameSpace As Outlook.Namespace
Dim objDistList As Outlook.DistListItem
Dim objMail As Outlook.MailItem
Dim objRecipients As Outlook.Recipients

Set objNameSpace = objOutlook.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set objDistList = objOutlook.CreateItem(olDistributionListItem)
Set objMail = objOutlook.CreateItem(olMailItem)
Set objRecipients = objMail.Recipients
objDistList.DLName = InputBox("Enter name of Distribution List")

For i = 1 To Cells(ActiveSheet.Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
objRecipients.Add (Range("C" & i).Value)
Next i

objDistList.AddMembers objRecipients
objDistList.Display
objRecipients.ResolveAll

Set objOutlook = Nothing
Set objNameSpace = Nothing
Set objDistList = Nothing
Set objMail = Nothing
Set objRecipients = Nothing

End Sub
