Creating custom text boxes with "input masks" in an Excel user form

By kdrew098 ·
I have unfortunately inherited someone else's almost finished Excel application at work. The one thing that really bothers me is all the date, social security, and other text boxes that give no clue as to the formatting (I realize I can etch the instruction into the form). What I'd like is to create input masks like in Access but Excel doesn't do this.

Does anyone know of any pre-existing code out there for creating custom text controls (ActiveX controls) for this purpose. It seems like others would have solved this long ago.

Any help or pointers to resources will be appreciated.
