Creating/Hosting own webserver

I wish to host my own website…What do i need? How do i do it. Any websites anyone could point me too that explain how to configure it. Any tips on how to set it up.. I know it’s a lenghty process but any help would be greatly appreciated. I can build websites.. So i know a bit about how servers work.. I know a bit of unix.. But other than that… I’m clueless. HELP!
