Creating Outlook message in HTML format

By gene_bartolome ·
How do I create a message in HTML format in Outlook? How is it possible to apply HTML formatting like <table>, <div> etc.? Is there an HTML editing mode there? Thanks!

You can change the format to HTML by going to Tools, Options, Mail Format. I don't know and can't think of a way to do actual html edits within Outlook.

You may not believe this, but the best way is to use an HTML editor (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc.) and create the HTML message there. Then view the page in IE, select all of the content on the page, and copy/paste it into the body of an HTML-enabled Outlook message. Trust me, it took some serious trial and error to figure this out. The only variable is the background color of the message. When you copy the content of the page into the message, the background color does not come with. So you need to set the color of the background within the Outlook message. Do this by going to Format >> Background >> Color and picking one of the 12 color options, or by creating a tiny image of the color you desire and selecting it as the background image (Format >> Background >> Image) -- it will tile.

I've said all this because you asked for the ability to do tables, etc., in the HTML message. Outlook allows for some very limited native HTML features, but you must go outside the lines like I showed above if you want to do more. Best of luck.
