Creating Tablespace in Oracle.

by Shanghai Sam In reply to Creating Tablespace in Or ...

Typically, your Oracle DBA creates the tablespace(s) because the setup can effect query speed.

Your administrator can create a "user" that defaults to a specified tablespace. All your objects are stored there automatically.

Syntax from SQLPlus on NT:
CREATE tablespace test_ts datafile 'E:\Oracle\oradata\mikes\test_ts.dbf' size 2M
default storage (initial 50K next 50K pctincrease 10);

Once the tablespace exists, you can also manually specify the tablespace within the CREATE command:

Create table XYZ (field1 char(20), field2...)
tablespace test_ts
Storage (initial 20K next 20K);
