creating users in AD Users and Computers

By mliebespeck ·
When creating a new user in AD Users and Computers, some of the fields are automatically filled-in based on the First and Last names entered. These default fields include ?Full Name?, ?User logon name?, and when Exchange 2000 is installed the exchange ?Alias?.

Is there any way to change the format of the data to coincide with our companies naming conventions?

I don't think it's possible to change the default settings on how AD U&C enters information. However, depending on how often you are adding users, you may want to write a script that you pass the new users info to, and it will fill in all the information just the way you want.

If you are on Windows2003, there are command line utils that you can put in a batch file. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B322684

If you are on Windows2000 or Win2k3, you can ADSI/VBS to connect directly to the server and create what you want.
