Creative SB X-Fi Issue

by michael34 . Updated 15 years, 7 months ago

Have a Creative SB X-Fi (PCI-E Sound card with updated drivers running XP 32-bit) Every time I play pop-cap games or any games like it, the game will run fine then the in-game sound effects (Which use WAV files) seam to stop after about 10 – 30 minutes however the music continues to play fine.

I went in dxdiag and ran a test on DirectSound. When I did the tests using the Software Buffer I couldn’t hear but the ones from the Hardware Buffer I could hear, also when it does this I cannot play any .wav files (System Sounds more specific they play but I hear nothing) but I can play MP3’s and other formats just fine.

I have updated the Creative drivers, and DirectX but I am still having this issue and it seams the only way to fix it is to reboot my PC. I also have a Realtek sound card in my PC (On-board) that I switched to which don’t seam to have this issue so I am unsure why my creative one is. Have reinstalled / uninstalled the creative driver a number of times and still no idea what is causing this.

Any help is much appreciated.
