credential conflict w2k

By Joe Donahue ·
Running w2k Advanced Server single domain - just in the last week a problem has developed when changing the computer name or joining w2k workstation computers to my network:
After choosing to join the domain from the workgroup computer and enteringthe only administrator name and password that we have,I get an error message: "The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials"
I searched technet briefly and couldn't find an answer.
Please Help!

Do you have mandatory profiles, or a domain-wide login script? This might be causing a problem if you are logged onto the computer with an account that has both local and domain IDs. I'd try logging on to the computer as the local Admin and addingthe built-in domain Administrator account to the local Administrators group first. Then, log off and log back on with the domain Administrator's password. See if you can then join the domain without getting the error. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick response, however it didn't help.
The problem was that there was another existing connection under a different user ID [a mapping]from the workstation to the server I was trying to connect to . Two different
userIDs cannotconnect from the same workstation to the same server at the same time
