CRITICAL Reverse DNS Pix Firewall

By llreil ·
AOL is not accepting any of our companies email. They say it is because they can not get a reverse DNS. We have reverse DNS set up, our ISP says everything is OK. We have a PIX 515e firewall. AOL states that any emails they receive shows the DNS as our firewall rather than our mail server. We do internal dns and everything is configured correctly. I think the problem is in the Pix. Can anyone tell me how to check or set up reverse DNS in the Pix.

Thank You

There is no reverse DNS in the pix. AOL isn't checking your pix for the reverse record they are checking your ISP's reverse record. The mistake is at the ISP's reverse DNS record. AOL is telling you how to fix it. Right now your reverse dns entry is mapped to your pix's outside address. Change the reverse record at your ISP to point to your outgoing mail server's outside IP address.

I actually did get this resolved. This ISP kept telling me it was not them, I called again and got someone who knew something and as soon as I told them they needed to add a ptr and a record they knew what to do. The last 2 people kept telling me I had to do it on our firewall, which I didn't believe but started to think maybe they may be right and wanted to ask the question. But your answer was correct.
