i really need help to solve this problem the abend message is: “Server-4.11a: Garbage Collection detected a corrupt memory node at 0x0F1F1E90″… after the message the server restarts…. it happen any time of the day (do not have a pattern)…

    Additional Information:
The NetWare OS detected a problem with the system while executing a process owned by SERVER.NLM. It may be the source of the problem or there may have been a memory corruption.

As processes on the server start and stop, they claim and release memory. Over a period of time, the memory gets fragmented. Garbage Collection optimizes that memory. TID #2943472 “Performance, Tuning and Optimization – Part 2” explains Garbage Collection. Go to Novell’s KnowledgeBase and do a search on that TID.

Four things to try. 1) I think you may have a bad NLM running on the server. See if you can run the server for a period of time with the basic NLMs loaded. Gradually load other NLMs to see if one in particular is causing the abend. Typing “SERVER -na” at the DOS prompt will load the server without loading the AUTOEXEC.NCF. You can then pick and choose which parts of the AUTOEXEC.NCF to load. 2) There are three values you can set, that may help you fine-tune the garbage collection. 3) Make sure you have the latest Service Patches applied. 4) A piece of hardware may be bad (memory, processor, etc).

I think option #1 may be the most likely cause.
      Hope this helps

      Are you running CONLOG.nlm?
All console messages are log to a file named \sys\etc\console.log If you examine the log you may find entrys prior to the ABEND which might lead you to the offending process.
      Good Luck.

Assuming that your completely patched up to sp7a, with the DS patch that just came out, I’d assume a bad ram module, or a third party nlm. Try running the server without any extra nlms running. (no tape backup etc.)

If you still have problems, then chech the system ram. Make sure you are using ECC memory, if you are not, your asking for trouble. If you can, down the server and run dos based diagnostic utilities, to checkout the systems hardware. I use amidiags for AMI. (same people who make bios chips)
A bad ram module will often cause the errors you describe.
