Crossover Cable Blues

by ddp095 . Updated 18 years ago

Hi All, I am trying to connect two notebooks together via a crossover cable with little luck. Here’s what I have done thus far:
1. both notebooks are a part of WORKGROUP
2. both notebooks HAD the firewall ON and OFF – it didn’t matter because both showed that the connection was good.
3. At one point I could see both computers on the one notebook through Network Places (using Windows Explorer to view)
4. Could only PING one system successfully – now both don’t ping.
5. updates TCP/IP with the relevant info (NOTEBOOK A: 192.168.0.1 SNM: 255.255.255.0 DG:192.168.0.2 NOTEBOOK B: 192.168.0.2 SNM: 255.255.255.0 DG: 192.168.0.1)
6. Tried both notebooks with FIREWALL on and off. Did not make a diff. either way.

If I forgot something I will re-post BUT that is about it. Any new ideas would be GREAT!! Thanks ALL!
