crossover network 2

my modem is using usb but the problem is i cant access the shared files on the network the weird thing is i had it going and i got a virus and it stuffed up so i removed the viurs and it didnt work so i formated and i was working for a bit but now i stoped again so wat im asking is how do i setup my network so i can play lan games and access the other computer's files what should i put in as my ips and stuff again cause i tryed what u all said and it didnt work i should be able to set up the internet sharing after i get the network going thanks

Well first you are going about it all wrong.

The first thing you need to do is setup the Internet Connection and then the Network from that Station and allow File & Printer Sharing when you run the Network Setup Wizard, you also can use Auto Detect Address. Once you have that setup you then move to the next computer and either use the Floppy that you have made or the XP CD to run the Network Setup Wizard and on this computer chose Manual Internet connection and then tell it that this computer connects through another Computer or Residential Gateway and things should then work for you.

Just remember to not only run AV programs on both computers but also to keep them up to date.
