CTRL + F and CTRL + B don't work.

By ssgtbair ·
Recently I noticed my CTRL F shortcut doesn't work anywhere and CTRL B doesnt work in Word 2007(I can't pinpoint the time and thus do not know what I may need to uninstall). Other CTRL + shortcuts still work (CTRL+A CTRL+U and others) I'm running Vista Business Edition on a Dell Latitude D610.

I've tried to find the settings in the registry but I'm not all that experienced in registry editing and have been unable to locate where the settings may have been changed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Reset Word Shortcuts

by IC-IT In reply to CTRL + F and CTRL + B don ...

Here is how to reset the Word 2007 Shortcuts;
On the Tools menu, click Customize.
Click Keyboard.
In the Save changes in box, click the current document name or template (template: A file or files that contain the structure and tools for shaping such elements as the style and page layout of finished files. For example, Word templates can shape a single document, and FrontPage templates can shape an entire Web site.) that contains the shortcut key (shortcut key: A function key or key combination, such as F5 or CTRL+A, that you use to carry out a menu command. In contrast, an access key is a key combination, such as ALT+F, that moves the focus to a menu, command, or control.) assignments you want to restore.
Click Reset All.
Note Reset All removes your customized shortcut key assignments and restores the original Microsoft Word shortcut key assignments in the selected template or document.

Note that you can also assign shortcuts in Word.

Ino longer have a Vista machine available, but they may have dropped the Ctrl+F. Here is a list. Click on the show all.

This May reset a shortcut for a Vista folder. It seems to indicate that it will at least reset the Ctrl+A; wont hurt to try.

I'll give these a try

by ssgtbair In reply to Reset Word Shortcuts

I'm away from my computer at the moment but I will give these a try. I suspect it isn't a Word specific issue because I can't do CTRL+F in IE or Firefox either. I'll try booting up in XP and give that a try too.

I'll report back :)

It worked

by ssgtbair In reply to I'll give these a try

Well, I guess Word 2007 somehow dorked everything up. While the shortcuts/hotkeys were still assigned in their menu when I reassigned them to the same keys they started to work and it fixed my problems in IE and other applications as well. Thanks for all the help.
