Custom ADM File

By Martin Powell ·
I am trying to create a custom ADM file and when I change the KEYNAME value to the required one to change, it no longer shows in Group Policy Editor. Two KEYNAME values are shown, it only appears when the "colon ed" line is active.

Attached adm file

CLASS MACHINE

CATEGORY !!categoryname

CATEGORY !!Home
; KEYNAME "SOFTWARE\Policies\System"
KEYNAME "SOFTWARE\Compaq\Easy Access
Buttons\Schemes\Compaq\2"
POLICY !!policyname
PART !!labeltext EDITTEXT REQUIRED
VALUENAME "Assignment"
END PART
END POLICY
END CATEGORY
END CATEGORY

[strings]

categoryname="COMPAQ"
Home="Home Button"
policyname="Home URL"
explaintext="This policy disables the autoplay feature on
the selected drive(s)"
labeltext="URL"

What is it exactly you are trying to change? Are you trying to change one or 2 keys? I used your same file and it worked fine when I removed the second keyname and used the commented out keyname.

If you are trying to change both keynames, that would work, although you can't use them together actively like what you are doing. You have to separate keynames into different "PART" sections, or use ACTIONLISTON in order to change multiple keys with one switch.

I have since found out that the template does work (the commented out line was an example from the original "amended" file).

There is a setting on the view menu of GPO Editor, "show policies only" that will allow policies that aren't from the 5 primary registry keys (HKLM\Policies, HKCU\Policies etc..)

How nice of Microsoft to include this in all their ADM documentation!
