Customer to update home page

By Aldanatech ·
After completing a whole web site from scratch on Dreamweaver. The customer wants to be able to easily update the home page with news and events. They don't have dreamweaver, but at least they have MS Office 2003. Of course several approaches could be suggested, but what would be the best one?

GO for it

by Oz_Media In reply to Customer to update home p ...

I've been there several times. I used to explain just how hard it would be as I was using a combination o mixed CSS styles too.

But now I just tell them it's not a good idea and i offer them an annual update deal, then I give them the log in details and leave it there.

Usually get a call within a week asking me what the ell is goin gon, so I offer to take care of fixing it for them, one it is done and up again. They RARELY try to update themselves anymore. People THINK they can do it, but DW writes some heavy duty code that makes it VERY easy to add complex styles and formatting to sites. People then just think they have to update text and will see a page as it appears in the Browser when they download it, one look at CSS and they usually back away very carefully so as not to startle it.

Offer them an update deal and of course, offer them the log in and FTP details,it's THIER information afterall, let THEM decide what's needed beyond that, it's THIER website afterall, until they call you for more help, at regular cost of course, because they made it YOUR problem again. They'll catch on eventually, you'll get a contract.
