Customising and parameterizing of SUS

By guido.vanlierde ·

Recently we have installed SUS -in test- on a internal server. Synchronizing works fine and we understand the possibilities.

But we have a problem with this case :

- Imagine that we have to install a big patch or Service Pack on 250 pc's. When we do this through the AD policies, the install will take place at 03.00 AM and will put - probably - our network down.

Is there a solution to this problem? Do we have to download the patch to a local disk with a different schedule?

Is that possible?

Thanks a lot,

Guido Van Lierde

well you don't have to install it on all 250 pcs at one time if that is your concern. unless all 250 pcs are identical and running the same O/S you may not want to deploy a big patch to all of em. SUS is like SMS in that you can test a patch out for compatibility with your system before deployment then choose which clients get the patch and when they get it. You can get a deployment guide on SUS from the SUS site which explans how to use it.
