Customising Windows XP

By damon ·
Hey All,

My team and I are in the process of building WindowsXP images for our clients - rolling out to around 100+ machines via RIS - We are configuring the machine with some customisations - but have come across some setting we want to change but can't seem to find how to change them.

1 - When we image the machine via RIS and have teh default user profile with our premade profile and a new user logs into the machine - they get the correct settings etc, but they also get the default icons for Outlook Express and Remote Assistance, plus the default favourites in IE - how can we stop this?

2 - We are using the new type start menu and have configured it down except we want to be able to have a variable for the users first name from AD -example they currently get say BloggsJ on PC1234 which comes from registry variables %username% on %computername%. What i want to have is the users first name on Machine Name - eg Damon on PC1234.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Remove the links from the Default User Profile under Documents and Settings. This also goes for the desktop icons and the links. You may need to change the view so that you can see hidden and system files.
