    d link wireless connection

    Locked

    by s.gale ·

I have a D link Di-624 router connected to my Dell desktop, a DWL-G650,PCMCIA in my Dell laptop. They both are running windows XP Pro. I also have a Gateway desktop running Windows ME I want to add a USB or PCI adapter to connect it to my network. Before I purchase the adapter I need to know if the two different OSs are a concern.
    Thank you

The connect using TCP/IP, just like on the Net. It was designed so that it doesn’t MATTER what the OS is on the other end, you can still connect.

That is why you can surf all the Unix and Linux web servers out there with ease.

Of course the system would run better if you went to Win2k instead of WinME. More stable and better memory management.

Not a problem with the different platforms communicating but you’ll find that a PCI WiFi Card will work faster than a USB WiFi as the USB has a upper transfer limit lower than the current WiFi Limits of the 802.11g standard.

If you want to go with a wired LAN the same still applies though the wired option is much faster than the Wireless option.
