Damaged Jump Drive

By connie.kile ·
I have a PNY 1GB jump drive that got bent and now I cannot access it. The light no longer comes on. Can it be repaired or data retrieved?

highly unlikely

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think it is highly unlikely. I had the same thing happen to me. The damage broke the board inside the the part that connects to the USB port. Thought I could solder it......but was wrong. If you do attempt a repair, I wish you nothing but GOOD LUCK!

Maybe. I'd say 30-40% chance.

If the memory chip itself was not destroyed, then a reasonably skilled electronics technician may be able to re-solder broken or cracked connections on the device.

Soldering this type of circuitry (surface-mount-devices) requires the proper tools and techniques or heat and/or static discharge will kill the components.
