Hello, an HP C1554C is a dds3 dat drive and should be only run with the 12/24 dds3 tapes. that you were able to use smaller tapes is interesting, it should not have worked, the drive expects a certain length of tape to write to. When was the last time you ran the cleaner tape??

Yes, I concur with robert, that you were able to use the 2/4 gb dats, is strange and should not be possible.Did you change your backup software?

Just had to comment after reading earlier posts, DDS drives are backwards compatible with older tapes, so you can definitely put a DDS2 tape in a DDS3 drive and it will work, the storage capacity will simply be limited by the size of the smaller tape.
Anyway, when does the tape eject? Does it eject shortly after inserting into the drive, or only after trying to start a backup job? If it ejects only after trying to start a job, this could possibly be an issue with your backup software, such as not allowing a backup made within X number of days to be overwritten, or if doing a restore this may simply be the wrong tape.
