I really need to bring myself up to speed on Data Mining tools, techniques and technologies. The problem is that I have discovered that many of the data mining techniques use quite advanced ideas from computer science, such as decision trees and neural networks, but I don’t really understand what neural networks is about.
So I was wondering, if you could give me a quick guide to neural networks technique and, in particular, answer some simple questions for me, namely;
1) How does the neural network technique work?
2) Why is it used in data mining?
3) Is it useful for any particular situations?
and, finally, can you recommend a good set of books and articles for me to follow up and find out more.
