Data recovery

by shibuza . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

Over last wkend I had someone unplug an external USB HD unit hot and it wiped the MBRs (near as I can tell).
Recently I read here somewhere that booting into Linux using a live cd of ubuntu could maybe get me access to the data on that HD without much fuss.
It has about 25Gb of data this guy says is NOT backed up anywhere else. (He says ‘personal data’…Probably tunes or porn.)
If I can strip the data out I’ll wipe, reformat and refill as the HD seems to be ok physically.

If this Linux trick won’t work can anyone reccommend a favorite data recovery software? As the freeware ones I’ve found aren’t up to it.
