Ownership

If you open Advanced Security tab, you can grab ownership of the files so that you can regain access to your files again.

Checked security settings?

by Dedlbug In reply to Data recovery in WIN XP ...

If it is saying "Access denied or files encrypted", that may be just what it is. Right-click on the drive containing the files you wish to access, and select "sharing and security". Check the Security tab. Make sure you user name (or "Everyone") is listed and has Full Control. If not, add it.

If it is Encrypted (folders/files are green in color), right-click the item, select "Properties" Select "advanced" button. Make sure Encryption is unchecked. You may need to be the owner of the folder to uncheck and apply. (Security tab / advanced)
