Data transfer

By sevenx70 ·
I am replacing an older computer running Win98 with a newer computer running Win2000. How do I transfer the data on the Win98 computer to the new computer?

Much depends on what "data" you want to transfer.

"Data" can be translated to mean many different things by many users.

I'm assuming the 2 computers are not connected by a network.

I'm also assuming you are talking about transferring workfiles as opposed to programs installed on the Win98 computer.

If the 2 computers are not "network-ready" (i.e. have NICs installed), your best choice will be to remove the hard drive from the Win98 computer and install it on the Win2K computer asa slave. You can then copy/move your files to the new hard drive.

Assume that both nachines have NICs. You can use cross-over cable to connect the two PCs together, and transfer data that way to.
