Data transfer issue

Trying to transfer data from AS400 environment to excel. The problem that I am having is that there are 3 fields that excel wants to import in Hex instead of as characters. I have determined that the reason for this is the quotes surrounding the text in the 400. But if I remove the quotes from the field, the 400 “Blows up” and the query no longer works. Any suggestions?
