I am a network administrator for a medium-sized business. We have approximately 150 servers. We are looking for a software solution that will house physical asset information, OS/software information, server purposes, hostnames, warranty information, IP addresses and associations, and a few other tidbits. I have been working on an Access database for a while that gives us what we need, but it isn’t the easiest to use (although it is getting better), and I don’t have the time to put quite as much work into it as a developer would. It sure seems like other datacenters would have the need for such software, but searching through Google has been a mess. I’ve found a few things such as Rackwise, Altiris software, and come CMDB-style software, but I don’t much care if what we use auto-discovers or not. It really just needs to be a repository for asset information (including virtual assets such as IP addresses) that can run reports and is oriented towards IT/datacenter use.
