Welcom to i-Series World

by dcarpenter In reply to Dave's i-series World

I intend to blog about various projects I am working on with regard to
the IBM i-series mid-range computer. The i-Series doesn't get
much ink. It is a little-known secret. I have based my IT
career thus far on the i-Series, and the AS/400 before that.

I began back in 1989 with my first AS/400 model B35. Just this
year I have been responsible for the installation of a new i-Series
Model 520.

We, here at Murray City Corp, have been pleased to be on this
platform. We use it primarily for our financials, and city
government applications. We use government applications by Sungard- HTE

Over the years, we have made our own modifications to the HTE product,
as well as some in-house enhancements that work along side HTE
aplications.

We still maintain some home-grown applications outside of HTE.

Of course with today's multiple platform-multiple server environment,
we have applications running on other platforms as well, including
Windows, Unix, Linux. Many different databases are also used,
from DB2, to Oracle, Informix, etc.

As for me, I specialize in i-Series applications and support. I
write new applications, maintain old ones, and modify HTE applications
as needed.

We are also in the process of making some of our applications, or parts
of applications available on the web. Our tool of choice is Websmart, by BCD Software.

I will post about programming tips and discoveries on i-Series related projects on this blog.
